Guides·Choosing a Rigging Company

How to choose a rigging company in Dubai: 10 questions to ask before you hire.

A practical checklist from a Dubai rigging and installation contractor for event agencies, production companies, malls, hotels, venues and fit-out contractors who need truss, chain hoists or a suspended installation rigged safely in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and across the UAE.

01·Short Answer

The short answer.

Choose a rigging company in Dubai that plans the load before it lifts anything, can show a method statement and risk assessment for your venue, uses inspected and certified equipment, works under working-at-height controls, carries insurance, and has done similar work in similar venues.

Price matters, but rigging is where a cheap shortcut becomes a safety, delay or venue-approval problem. The questions below separate a contractor who can get your installation approved, rigged and dismantled on time from one who cannot.

Redfox is a Dubai rigging company founded in 2003, working on event, stage, mall ceiling and atrium rigging across the UAE. We do the jobs others called not possible.

02·The Checklist

10 questions to ask a rigging company.

  • 1. Who calculates the loads and rigging points? Ask how they work out the weight of the structure, the load on each point and whether the ceiling, beam or roof can take it. For heavier or unusual rigs, ask whether a structural engineer checks the design.
  • 2. Will they produce a method statement and risk assessment? Malls, hotels, exhibition halls and landlords usually ask for these before they approve work. A rigging company should prepare them for your specific venue and installation, not hand over a generic template.
  • 3. Is the equipment inspected and certified? Chain hoists, shackles, slings, clamps and truss should be inspected and have current test certificates or inspection records. Ask to see them.
  • 4. Who is on site, and are they trained riggers? Ask who supervises the rig, how many riggers are on the crew and what working-at-height training they have.
  • 5. How do they work at height? Ask about access equipment (boom lifts, scissor lifts, spider lifts, scaffolding), harnesses, exclusion zones below the work and rescue planning.
  • 6. Do they carry insurance? Venues commonly ask for liability insurance for contractors working on site. Confirm it is in place before the job is booked.
  • 7. Can they work at night and outside trading hours? Most mall and venue rigging in Dubai happens overnight. Ask whether the team works night shifts and how they protect the venue floor and finishes.
  • 8. Have they rigged in a venue like yours? Mall atriums, hotel ballrooms, exhibition halls and outdoor sites all have different constraints. Ask for comparable projects.
  • 9. Do they supply the equipment, the crew, or both? Some clients need truss and hoists on dry hire for their own crew; others need a full rigging team. A contractor that does both can flex between them.
  • 10. Who dismantles it, and when? Dismantling is a second rig, often on a tighter night. Confirm it is in the quote, with the date, crew and access equipment.
03·Red Flags

Warning signs to watch for.

  • No questions about weight, points or the venue before quoting.
  • No method statement or risk assessment offered, or a generic one.
  • No inspection records for hoists, slings and shackles.
  • A quote that leaves out access equipment, night work or dismantling.
  • Pressure to skip venue approvals to save time.
04·What to Send

What to send for a rigging quote.

  • The venue and exact location, for example the atrium, ballroom or hall.
  • Drawings or renders of what is being hung or built, with sizes.
  • The estimated weight, or a list of what will be suspended (lighting, screens, decor, signage, truss).
  • The dates and hours available for installation and dismantling.
  • Whether you need equipment only, a crew, or a full rig.
  • Any venue requirements you already have, such as approved points or paperwork.

Use the form below, or see the mall atrium and ceiling rigging guide and the truss and chain hoist rental checklist.

05·Example

What this looks like in practice.

At The Galleria Mall, Abu Dhabi, Redfox planned and rigged a suspended structure of about 1,500 kg above the central atrium in two days (case study). The same team installed the ribbon lighting on the Galleria facade (case study). We do the jobs others called not possible.

Common Questions

Quick answers.

How do I choose a rigging company in Dubai?

Pick a contractor that calculates loads and rigging points before lifting, prepares a method statement and risk assessment for your venue, uses inspected and certified equipment, works under working-at-height controls, carries insurance, works at night when the venue needs it, and has done similar work in similar venues.

What documents does a rigging company need for a mall or venue in Dubai?

Venues commonly ask for a method statement, a risk assessment, equipment inspection or test certificates, proof of insurance and the crew list. Requirements vary by venue, so confirm them with the venue early.

Do I need a structural engineer for rigging?

For heavy, unusual or permanent rigs, a structural engineer often checks the load and the supporting structure, and some venues require it. Ask the rigging company whether your rig needs an engineer’s check.

Can a rigging company supply truss and chain hoists too?

Many can. Redfox supplies truss and chain hoists on dry hire or with Redfox riggers, and rigs them as part of a full installation.

Does Redfox work outside Dubai?

Yes. Redfox works across the UAE, including Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and on projects in Saudi Arabia and Qatar on a project basis.

How do I get a rigging quote from Redfox?

Send the venue, drawings or a list of what is being hung, the estimated weight, the dates and whether you need equipment only or a crew. Use the quote form on this page or WhatsApp.
